For the second time after 2012, Germany’s top surfer Philip Köster has won his home World Cup off Westerland on Sylt. A victory in the first half of the season was enough for the former world champion from Hamburg in waveriding, the second series had to be broken off due to the unfavorable weather conditions.

The Brazilian Marcilio Browne was already confirmed as the new world champion before the final weekend. Sarah-Quita Offringa (Aruba) triumphed in the women’s category, while Lina Erpenstein from Aschaffenburg came in third. Around 150,000 people watched the regattas on Brandenburg Beach, which were endowed with a total of 85,000 euros.

“It’s a great feeling to have won my home World Cup for the second time in front of my family and the German fans. Next year I’ll attack again and want to win my sixth world title,” said the 28-year-old Köster.
