The number of national stadium bans imposed by the KNVB fell from 1,100 to 824. The number of stadium bans for public violence also decreased, from 176 to 108. More than twenty stadium bans were imposed in three of the 968 matches in professional football.

The average duration of the stadium bans imposed was 22 months, two months less than a season earlier. “Because the length of the punishment is related to the seriousness of the violation, this also underlines that the number of serious cases has decreased in the 2024/’25 season,” the KNVB writes.

What does director Marianne van Leeuwen say?

The number of disciplinary (preliminary) investigations for disorder initiated by the independent prosecutor of professional football increased from 150 to 161. According to the KNVB, these mainly concerned less serious cases.

“Despite the fact that there were fewer large-scale incidents last season, every incident remains one too many,” says Marianne van Leeuwen, director of professional football at the KNVB. “It ruins a fun football afternoon or evening and the impact can be significant, especially for the people who work in the stadium. That is why, together with the clubs, leagues and supporters and our partners, the municipalities, government, politicians, police and Public Prosecution Service, we continue to work tirelessly to ensure hospitable and safe stadiums where everyone can fully enjoy football.”
