1. FC Nürnberg continues to make progress in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Miroslav Klose’s team, which started the season weakly, defeated newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 (0-0) and moved into the top half of the table with their third success in a row.
Rafael Lubach (49th, penalty kick) and Finn Becker (46th) scored for the club, which has now been unbeaten in six games. Bielefeld has been waiting for an away win since August 10th and fell behind Nuremberg in the table.
Nuremberg tried to control the game from the start, while Bielefeld stood deep and waited for quick transitions. Despite having a lot of possession, the hosts struggled to create chances.
The shots from Julian Justvan (9th) and Lubach (45th + 1) in the first half did not pose any problems for goalkeeper Jonas Kersken. The East Westphalians had nothing to offer offensively, they didn’t fire a shot on goal before the break.
The second half started more eventfully. Captain Mael Corboz hit Nuremberg Becker on the foot, and Lubach safely converted the subsequent penalty. After taking the lead, the hosts remained in control, acted purposefully and were rewarded: Becker scored to make it 2-0. Bielefeld then invested a lot more, but great opportunities initially remained in short supply. Leon Schneider was also unlucky when he hit the crossbar (89th).
