Prime Minister Schoof, Minister of Weel of Foreign Affairs and State Secretary Tielen of Health, Welfare and Sport (Youth, Prevention and Sport) will participate in the 80th General Meeting of the United Nations (AVVN) in New York next week. The Kingdom delegation also consists of Prime Minister Mcelina of Sint-Maarten, Prime Minister Pisas of Curaçao and Minister Cicilia of Tourism, Transport and Labor of Aruba.
The Prime Minister Schoof program will start on Tuesday 23 September in New York with the opening reception, organized by Secretary-General Guterres of the United Nations. In the evening he attends a reception from US President Trump. On Wednesday 24 September, the Prime Minister has a dinner with representatives of Dutch companies, based in the United States. Thursday, September 25, he addresses the General Meeting of the United Nations. Furthermore, during his presence at the AVVN, the Prime Minister takes part in various side events about the war in Ukraine, Artificial Intelligence and Climate. He also has various bilateral encounters with heads of state and government leaders.
Minister Van Weel arrives on Sunday 21 September and will stay in New York all week. Minister Van Weel will have various bilateral encounters during the week, meet with EU and G20 outdoor ministers and participate in various meetings and work dinners. At the start of the week he will participate in the conference on the two -state solution. He will also speak at an event about justice for Ukraine, in which the Netherlands still plays a pioneering role. He also participates in sessions about the situation in the Middle East, Sudan, MH17, Maritime Safety and LGBTIQ+ Rights.
State Secretary Tielen travels to attend the UN High-Level Meeting about (the prevention of) non-transferable diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s and mental health on Thursday 25 September. During various side events on 23 and 24 September, she organizes and speaks about specific wife-man differences within this theme. Furthermore, State Secretary Tielen has consultations with various foreign fellow ministers and UN officials, with the aim of knowledge exchange and joint commitment when it comes to women’s health.
Prime Minister Merccelina of Sint Maarten, Minister Gumbs of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of Sint-Maarten, Prime Minister Pisas of Curaçao and Minister Cicilia of Tourism, Transport and Labor of Aruba speak at various events about themes such as Youth, Health, Women’s Rights and Climate. Other themes on the agenda are the business community, artificial intelligence and the challenges for Small Island Developing States (SIDS: small island states in development).
