It wouldn’t be the first
Insolvency from traditional club probably no longer to avert

KFC Uerdingen has been threatening bankruptcy again for weeks. Now it is clear: the fifth bankruptcy of the club can no longer be averted.
The fifth bankruptcy of the club’s history is imminent for the KFC Uerdingen. The responsible insolvency administrator of the club, which is currently playing in the Regionalliga West, told the “Westdeutsche Zeitung”: “I assume that the insolvency proceedings will be opened on April 1.”
Bankruptcy had been indicated for weeks, now there seems to be certainty. It would be the next sad chapter in the history of the traditional club. Already in 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2021, Uerdingen had to register bankruptcy. Well, just a few weeks before the 40th anniversary of the cup victory through a 2-1 win against FC Bayern, the next procedure is imminent.
As the insolvency administrator and expert announced, all creditors will be referred again this week. On the basis of the report, the bankruptcy court would then make a decision and then set an appointment for a creditor meeting, which would have to take place within three months of the opening of the insolvency proceedings.
An bankruptcy can only be averted if the bankruptcy applications were withdrawn or declared done. Another option would be that there is so much money that an insolvency reason can be excluded – that is, neither over -indebtedness nor an insolvency.
So there must be more assets than there is debt. However, this requirement is not fulfilled, according to the insolvency administrator.
The main sponsor of the association had recently assured that the sponsorship also maintained sponsorship in the event of a relegation to the top division and to take over the salaries of employees for the next three months, but according to the insolvency administrator, the declaration of intent is not enough. This must now be inferior with liquidity. That probably hasn’t happened yet. According to the insolvency administrator, the club should have around 100 creditors.
If Uerdingen actually reports bankruptcy, this is punished with a nine-point deduction. Uerdingen is currently in 16th place in the table with 21 points. With twelve points, the club would be ten points behind a non-relegation zone.
