Kelsey was the ninth participant in the Musis & Stadstheater Arnhem. Then things got exciting. First, the professional jury cast its vote, supplemented by a fourteenth jury member, powered by AI. That earned him a lot of points from the start, with the exchange of money between the North Hollander and the Groningen entry.

After all jury members had submitted their votes, Verbrugge was in second place. The public votes were then discussed, after which Groningen took the win.

It may seem very natural that Kelsey represented our province at the Regional Song Contest tonight. But the 25-year-old Hoofddorp resident has actually only been performing in front of an audience for six years. It started as a ‘joke’ for him, when he took the microphone at his brother’s birthday.

After a number of successful karaoke evenings, during which the audience clearly enjoyed themselves, Kelsey took part in a major talent show in the Amsterdam pub Jantjes Verjaardag. After the talent show, bookings poured in.

In everyday life he is a plasterer, but music is no stranger to Kelsey’s family. His great-aunt is famous singer Willeke Alberti.
