Yle presented the music legend who died on Saturday night Pauli “Pate” Mustajärvi in honor of Pate Mustajärvi – Suomirock legend – memorial broadcast. Katja Ståhlin’s live broadcast, people who knew Mustajärvi remembered the 69-year-old musician who died on Boxing Day.
One of the memoirists was Mustajärvi’s nephew Jussi Aaltonenwho has also toured the musician at the concerts of the Popeda band. Ståhl pointed out that Aaltola came up with Mustajärvi’s well-known nickname Pate. Aaltonen told a story about the background of the nickname, which includes a squirrel accident.
– My friend and I went down on a mountain bike. Huge accident at Kyntäjäntie 13: we ran over a squirrel with a mountain car. It remained writhing and screaming like it was being eaten and dragged itself with its forelimbs, Aaltonen told and made Ståhl grimace in horror.
– I started running and knocking on grandma’s door and Pauli opened the door. The situation was so critical that we had to act quickly. So I shortened the situation to “Pate, give me the knife”. Otherwise, he didn’t, Aaltonen continued the story.

During his speech, Aaltonen also shared, among other things, a memory of how Mustajärvi lulled them to sleep with his incredible stories.
– At the same time Epo Lehtinen accompanied those stories with his guitar. Eeppo Lehtinen could take a sahtihuika, when Pauli continued: “And only Vuoripuro sang beautifully”, Aaltonen recalled.
– One of our women in the family could pass it by and laugh happily, which is what she did too [Mustajärvi] said, “And the notorious women only laughed.” So we didn’t sleep for a couple of nights, he added.
– Now that’s enough or else we won’t sleep for a couple of nights either, Ståhl asked with a little laugh.

– Cancer’s devil threw a little curveball at the concert plans, but while on sick leave there is plenty of time to write, the singer wrote in November.
