Kanye West claims Quentin Tarantino and Jamie Foxx stole his story idea for Django Unchained. Tarantino won the 2013 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his revenge drama about a slave in 1860s America. In an interview with Piers Morgan, West set out his views. He says he pitched the idea to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino back in 2005 while they were shooting the video for Gold Digger. In the interview he said: “Actually have [Tarantino] and Jamie my story because I suggested it to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as a video for Gold Digger. And then Tarantino made a movie out of it.”

However, the music video for the song, which is featured on West’s second studio album LATE REGISTRATION, was not shot by Tarantino, but by Hype Williams. The film idea for “Django Unchained” comes from the film “Django” from 1966, whose main actor Franco Nero had a cameo appearance in “Django Unchained”.

Tarantino later worked on the comic book “Django/Zorro”, which is considered the official sequel to the film and was published in seven separate issues from 2014 to 2015. A film was planned for 2019, but was then put on hold again. In the comic, Django meets Zorro and, after they decide to work together, becomes Zorro’s bodyguard.
