US singer Carly Simon mourns the loss of her sisters Lucy and Joanna. As the broadcaster CNN reported, both died of cancer within a day at the age of 82 and 85. “It saddens me to speak about the deaths of Joanna and Lucy Simon,” Simon told CNN. “Your loss will be long and haunting.”

“As sad as this day is, it is impossible to mourn them without celebrating the incredible lives they have lived,” said the 78-year-old. “We were three sisters who not only took turns pioneering each other and setting courses, we were each other’s secret parts. The co-truers of our mutual memories.”

“Nobody Does it Better” – Carly Simon’s Bond song in the check:

Carly Simon was best known for the song “You’re So Vain” (1972) from her third album “No Secrets”, which reached number 1 in the US charts and reached number 8 in Germany. The second single “The Right Thing To Do” reached number 17 on the Billboard charts. With “Nobody Does It Better” she and composer Marvin Hamlisch succeeded in 1977 in one of the most famous Bond songs. She released her last regular album, This Kind of Love, in 2007.

Lucy and Carly Simon formed the folk duo The Simon Sisters in the 1960s and released three albums. After leaving the project, Lucy Simon composed music for musicals such as The Secret Garden and Doctor Zhivago, based on the books of the same name. Joanna Simon was also musically active as an opera singer. Her brother, the photographer Peter Simon, died in 2018.
