In Kruikenstad (Tilburg) this year is a ‘Safe Space’ for the first time, a space where people can go if they feel unsafe at some point if it gets too much. “He can go here for a while and be alone, or get support from a first aid or social worker,” says initiator Laura van Alphen.

The space is next to the first aid tent in the center. “The space has already been used. We have heard from a few people who did not feel well, or were approached on a nasty mania, “says Van Alphen.

For example, it concerns people who need a little rest, “but there are also care providers who are trained to help if, for example, a report has to be made to the police.”

Huge event
According to Van Alphen, cross -border behavior still occurs at Carnival. “We have heard that from pub owners with whom we have contact. Carnival is a huge event, one of the largest events in Tilburg. So it’s logical that things happen that can’t get through, “she says.

According to her, other municipalities are watching. “If this works well, other municipalities are certainly interested in having a ‘safe space’ next year,” says Van Alphen.
