A goal of national player Jule Brand in added time gave the Bundesliga soccer players of VfL Wolfsburg an important 2-1 (0: 0) success against TSG Hoffenheim. Due to the victory, the “wolf” defended second place in the table, which is synonymous with the direct qualification for the Champions League.

Brand was successful on Monday evening in the third minute of stoppage time for the team of interim coach Sabrina Eckhoff. Her fine lifter caused cheering storms at the Lower Saxony, who showed a mixed performance overall and had lost second place in Eintracht Frankfurt in a draw. The Hessians won 4-0 at 1. FC Köln on Sunday.

Wolfsburg had fallen behind by a goal from Vanessa Diehm (65th). Alexandra Popp soon managed to equalize (74th) before the substitute brand still scored the winning goal 60 seconds before Ultimo.

Hoffenheim with the better chances

In the first section, VfL had major problems to get structure in his game against the highly starting and aggressively pressing Hoffenheimers. Constructive attacks by the Lower Saxony were rare. A shot from Popp from the penalty area, which narrowly missed the goal (12th), was the most dangerous Wolfsburg campaign in the first 45 minunts.

With continuous playing time, the thread almost completely tore the “wolf”. In the forward movement, the hosts were almost nothing. And the VfL was very lucky at two head balls from Marta Cazalla (29th, Latte/36.). Shortly before the break, Lisann Kaut came free from 16 meters. However, keeper Anneke Borbe was able to bury her harmless shot (45th).

Popp and Brand provided turn

After the change of sides, the “wolf” acted much more lively than before. And finally the Eckhoff team also had noteworthy scoring opportunities. Lineth Beerensteyn after a great solo (48th) and Popp (49th) had the lead on the foot. A little later Vivien Endemann missed the 1-0. Her shot was just cleared to the corner (64th). Instead, the gate fell on the opposite side: Diehm took a heart from around 20 meters and overcame Borbe with a shot to the top right corner.

Jule Brand (2nd VL) shot VfL to victory.

VfL’s answer to the deficit that was surprising at the time was not long in coming: after a free kick by Justine Kielland, Popp was on hand and equalized with a left -wing shot. Shortly afterwards, Beerensteyn failed with a header on the aluminum (77th). Much more did not come from the “wolves” to injury time. Then Brand was sent on the trip by Kielland and lifted the ball soulingly over the falling goalkeeper Laura Dick.
