Judge waits to appoint arbitrator in Trump case

Federal Judge Aileen Cannon has reaffirmed his support of Donald Trump’s request to appoint an independent arbitrator (special master) to challenge the FBI’s search. However, she did not immediately want to make a decision in favor of Trump on Thursday.

Cannon urged Justice to explain at a hearing in West Palm Beach the objections to the request for arbitration in this case to prevent violation of civil rights. The FBI seized confidential government documents from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate that the former president had taken from the White House. Trump wants some of it back.

“In the end, what’s wrong with appointing a special master to take another look at that material,” Cannon asked the prosecutors. “What I’m curious to hear from the government, what harm could it do other than delaying the investigation?”.
