Second driest August behind us: local thunderstorms this weekend, but not solving problems | Inland

The RMI predicts that from Friday afternoon there is a chance of local showers with possible thunderclaps in the regions near the French border. In the evening and at night the character of those showers can even become thunderstorms, although it will remain dry in several places. There is also a chance of showers with thunderstorms during the day on Saturday. Towards the evening the chance decreases.

“There could be five millimeters of precipitation on Saturday, but that is optimistic,” says Dehenauw. “That is not nothing, but in light of what we need, that is of course not enough.” Rain is also forecast in several places next week, “but it won’t be much in itself.”

We can expect thunderstorms this weekend. According to Dehenauw, they can be fierce, but “that does not solve the problems in most places.”

Rain or not, it looks like additional temporary and preventive measures will be taken next week due to the drought of recent months. The navigable waterways suffer from very low flows in some places. The Drought Committee again called on Thursday to limit water use as much as possible.
