Journalistic Tiles for Sinan Can, Erik Mouthaan and De Deventer Mediazaak | NOW

Sinan Can (photo) and Erik Mouthaan each received a Tegel, the most important Dutch journalistic prize, in Amare in The Hague on Monday. Mouthaan got a Tile for his report of the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.

Can won in the category Interview with his documentary Return CaliphateIn Syria, where Islamic State was defeated, he spoke to some European IS members about their view of the regime.

Annegriet Wietsma and Joram Willink received a Tile for the podcast The Deventer media storeargos† In the News category, a Tile went to Frank Hendrickx and Tom Kreling van de Volkskrant for their revelations about the mouth cap deal of Sywert van Lienden.

A special Tile was awarded to Free Press Unlimited, the Dutch organization that fights for independent journalism worldwide. Jan-Hein Strop and Stefan Vermeulen van Follow the Money received the special audience award for their contribution to the news about the face mask affair.

Tribute to journalists

The Tile has been awarded annually since 2006. The journalistic award is a recognition of and a tribute to journalists who have contributed to maintaining and improving the quality of Dutch-language journalism and background productions, writes the organization on its website.
