Joop van den Ende has fallen through the lower limit with his sneer at Geert Wilders, says columnist Jan Dijkgraaf, also known as the biographer of the Meilandjes. “I think that’s gross.”

PVV leader Geert Wilders has achieved nothing at all with his participation in the cabinet. According to Joop van den Ende, it is good that he is now on the side again and the middle parties will solve things together. According to him, such a politician is really of no use at all. Geert Wilders is the worst thing that has happened to the Netherlands,” he even says.

If people continue to believe in Wilders, then they are unprecedentedly naive, according to Joop. “He had the chance twice and he didn’t take that chance twice. It’s nothing at all, just screaming. It’s a tumor.”

Is it fair to call the politician a ‘cancer’? Jan Dijkgraaf doesn’t think so. “D66 members, those people who promised before the elections to build ten new cities in the Netherlands, would call something like that a ‘metaphor’. I mainly call it: gross,” the columnist writes in Letter from Jan.

Civilization

Jan has a strong opinion, but he says he would never call people a cancer. “So then I certainly don’t expect something like that from someone who has been preaching ‘civilization’ for a few years now.”

He continues in his piece to Joop: “As far as I’m concerned, your lack of good taste falls through a lower limit when you call Geert Wilders ‘a tumor’.”

Censorship

According to Jan, it is also ridiculous that Joop calls the cuts to public broadcasting censorship. “Just to refresh your memory: ‘censorship’ is the government banning certain programs or channels.”

Then bluntly: “Either you are a scary populist. Or you are completely ready for admission to an institution where the ‘guests’ do not receive the code for the combination lock.”
