Jong AZ did it again against De Graafschap and Jong Ajax pulled off a draw against ADO

Not for the first time, Jong AZ beat De Graafschap at home. In recent years the Superboeren were sent home with 7-3 and 2-1 and this time the scoreboard read 3-0 after the match. Young Ajax can also look back on a great evening, at De Toekomst it remained 0-0 against number three ADO Den Haag.

With Wouter Goes, Maxim Dekker and Mexx Meerdink in the starting line-up, Jong AZ started well against De Graafschap. In the first half, Finn Stam, Jayden Addai and Ernest Poku were dangerous. However, Mees Bakker stood in the way again and again. The goalkeeper from Heiloo has been the closing post at the Doetinchem club since this season.

Penalty

In the second half, the home team was able to express their field dominance in goals. Ten minutes after halftime, Addai was knocked down in the penalty area and Meerdink was then allowed to open the score against his old team from a penalty, 1-0. A few minutes later, Addai doubled the score. The goal was already the eighth goal of the season for the quick winger. Just before the end, substitute Damienus Reverson finally ended the match with the 3-0.

Jong AZ line-up: Owusu-Oduro; Van Aken, Goes, Dekker, Stam; Kwakman (Mastoras/66), Schouten, Smit (Koster/83); Addai (Kewal), Meerdink (Reverson/83), Poku (Daal/66)

Then Young Ajax. On this hectic day, where head coach Maurice Steijn left the team from Amsterdam just before the first whistle, the U23 team performed very well in front of its own audience against ADO Den Haag with a 0-0 draw.

Ferryman

Former FC Volendam players Daryl van Mieghem and Henk Veerman were in the starting line-up at the well-performing ADO Den Haag. The latter had one of the biggest chances of the match just before the end, but the Hagenezen’s top scorer had to admit his superiority in Jong Ajax goalie Charlie Setford.

The highlight of the evening was Ahmetcan Kaplan’s appearance. The Turkish defender only made his official debut after fourteen months in Amsterdam service. Last year, the 20-year-old Turk came over from Trabzonspor, but injuries prevented his debut for a long time. Now Kaplan came into the team twenty minutes before time.

Line-up Young Ajax: Setford; Jermoumi, Aertssen, Gooijer (Kaplan/71), Martha; Agougil, Brandes (Verschuren/76), Salah-Eddine (Sarfo/64); Banel, Kalokoh (Idumbo Muzambo/46), Godts (Chourak/64)

Young Ajax doesn’t make much progress with the draw. Dave Vos’ team remains twentieth and therefore last in the first division. This Friday, Jong Ajax will visit leader Roda JC in Kerkrade. We find Jong AZ in the left row in ninth place. The young Alkmaarders continue the competition against FC Emmen in Drenthe on Friday.
