Johnny Depp’s sixtieth: a critical birthday greeting

Will Amber Heard give her ex-husband Johnny Depp a bouquet of flowers and a box of confectionery from a trendy Hollywood chocolatier for his birthday?

Pretty sure not.

And even the usually well-informed US Boulevard hardly seems to be interested in the 37-year-old actress since the spectacular court case with a “victory” by the lawyer-studded Depp team in late summer 2023 was filed.

London’s “Daily Mail” notes that Heard “goes about her usual life” in her new home in Madrid. At about the same time, the once dearly beloved re-enters the world stage of the rich and famous at the Cannes Film Festival on the occasion of the premiere of the powdered historical adaptation “Jeanne du Barry”.

Heard is said to be having a good time in the Spanish capital with her two-year-old daughter Oonagh Paige. After all, public interest in her has not completely died down. She is shot down by a paparazzi while she is “book shopping”. Born in the small town of Owensboro, in rural Kentucky, Johnny Depp, who turns 60 today, gets a hero’s reception in Cannes, earning a standing ovation from his southern French fans.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp

It is difficult to appreciate the artistic merits of Johnny Depp since his stormy role in the young policeman series “21 Jump Street” (1987 to 1990) (which was also very successful on German private TV), without going to the extreme -Third to recall with and against Heard.

Even his wild time with the then very young super model Kate Moss (who later always jumped to his side in difficult hours) was VIP riots at its best. Johnny Depp starred under “cult” director John Waters in the offbeat revue strip “Cry Baby”. He met Tim Burton and he starred in a character lead in Gilbert Grape: Somewhere in Iowa in a dream combo with Leonardo DiCaprio and Juliette Lewis. You can read about his film vita everywhere, it is, as the saying goes: “well documented”.

But what is far more formative is Depp’s strange interpretation of the rock ‘n’ roll myth. Even before he turned to acting, he wanted to become an old-school rocker with diligence and poses. Nobody from the world star league was and is as close to the guitar as Depp. The opening of his iconic LA live dive bar Viper Room on the edge of the Sunset Strip and his devotion to the late stage virtuoso Jeff Beck shine as an example.

Depp goes hand in hand with the dark. The image of the “bad boy” lived out hundreds of times, with women lying at his feet. His French long-term partner Vanessa Paradies, with whom Depp spent a relatively stable era of his rollercoaster life between 1998 and 2012, also remained in “Team Depp” after the breakup.

There must be something, one cannot say otherwise, about this artistically astonishing and personally shady human being. The macho failures with constant drinking, drug failures and shattered hotel suites have never fallen on Depp in the long run.

With mild melancholy you can hear the bar philosophers murmur: “Yo, yo, Johnny … he’s just SO!” Johnny depp is not broken cancellable.

And if the current film news now reads that Johnny Depp never wants to return to his (late) prime role in the Disney group’s sequel epic “Pirates of the Caribbean”, despite the multi-million fee sum that are being rumored about – then that too will only increase the myth of the rough-and-tumble romantic rockers who act against all the conventions of show business.

According to his friends, Depp is “done once and for all” with the Disney giant. The birthday boy remains furious at how the US studio coldly dumped him when ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of molestation.

Disney President Sean Bailey recently made global headlines when he vaguely commented that his company was currently “undecided” on Depp’s return. After all, this was seen in the US industry as an attempt to keep a fool’s door open.

After all, a bitter financial flop could threaten in the event of an unsuccessful replacement lead role for Captain Jack Sparrow in this mega-grossing blockbuster format. One of Disney’s crazy moves would be to make Amber Heard the next Chief Pirate. But only Johnny Depp himself would come up with such crazy ideas.

In spite of everything; a decent one from here: Congratulations, Johnny.
