Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, and Mike Dean released the main theme, “The Lure,” for HBO’s The Idol on Friday (June 9). The mysterious, foreboding instrumental captures the vibe of the show by and starring Tesfaye. In addition to “The Lure” the song “World class sinners‘ released by Jocelyn, Lily-Rose Depp’s character in The Idol. Depp was actually behind the microphone for the song.

Tesfaye originally planned to release the soundtrack as an album on June 30th. However, the 33-year-old announced on Instagram that he had changed his mind: From now on, a new song from the soundtrack will be released every week. “I was planning to release the full soundtrack for ‘Idol’ with the series finale, but I’m too hyped… Instead, I want to drop new music every week along with the new episode. I can’t wait for you guys to hear what we’ve cooked,” he wrote in his post.

Viewers are disappointed with the first “The Idol” episode

Scores of fans flocked to Tesfaye’s post to express their disappointment with the series. “We don’t care about the series bro just make an album,” wrote one user. “With all due respect, Episode 1 was rubbish,” opined another. Not everyone found the pilot episode horrible, though: “I didn’t think it was that bad?” commented one user, adding that he was high while watching the episode.

The final single from the “Idol” soundtrack”Popular‘, featuring guest contributions from Playboi Carti and Madonna, was released on June 2nd. Previously, on April 21, “double fantasy‘ been released.

The Grammy Award winner also announced some time ago that he wanted to change his stage name. “It’s one thing I just have to do. I have nothing more to say as The Weeknd,” Tesfaye said in an interview. So that nobody has to worry, he also makes it clear in the conversation that he will continue to make music, just under a different pseudonym.
