For almost ten months, Joep Paddenburg has been spent four evenings a week in the Theaterhangaar in Katwijk, where he plays the leading role in musical hit Soldier of Orange. He never expected that it would stay so much fun, the actor admits laughing: “But the audience stays enthusiastic. And every evening I discover new details in the story and Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema who further deepen the role for me.”

A few more months and then it is fifteen years ago that the musical premiered. “I think I’m going to do my best to be there anyway,” laughs Paddenburg.

The actor can also be seen in cinemas from this week in Full Moona Dutch intersection between The Beach and The Hangover. Four friends go to Thailand to give in to a wild ‘fullleman party’. But if a girl disappears the next morning, the locals turn against the four Dutch people. The film was already recorded at the beginning of 2024; In addition to Paddenburg, Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen, Kay Greidanus and Yannick Jozefzoon play the lead roles.

It was a tough turning period, says Paddenburg: “We played with a largely Thai crew, which meant a big language barrier. Moreover, it was 40 degrees every day and we were attacked by mosquitoes and snakes in the jungle, where we filmed.”

Incidentally, this caused a great sense of togetherness while running. “We had seventeen shooting days, so we had to use every moment. Everyone was aware of that: we all have to put their shoulders to the wheel, otherwise this will not work.”

Paddenburg had the additional advantage that he has previously Costa !! could be seen. “Then we also played in the boiling heat in Spain for weeks. But an action film is just a little more challenging, if you have to run a scene ten times in which you have to run fast because you are being chased.”

Everything to survive

The actor immediately became happy Full Moon When he read the script. “The most important theme is what extreme circumstances can do with people,” he explains. “The four friends end up in a situation where they have to do everything to survive. What are your principles or your friendships still worth under such circumstances? How far do you go when it comes to life or death?”

Paddenburg was the Benjamin of the group – the three other actors are a few years older and all three already have families. “To create a group feeling, we also dealt a lot in Thailand in Thailand,” he says. “Every evening we went out to dinner or do a beer and had deep conversations. We tried to hold on that feeling during the recordings.”

At the end of the turning period, all families came to Thailand. “Then I suddenly saw the dad versions of those three tough men,” laughs Paddenburg. For him, his sister Eefje came across, who is now part of the regular ensemble of Toneelgroep Ita.

“I have an appointment with my sisters that when we film abroad, we will visit each other,” he explains. “It is very nice to share moments like that. I recently visited Eefje in Italy, where she had recordings for the series Bastaabout the life of Marco van Basten. ”

For the cast and crew, a ‘Volllaan party’ was organized after the recordings to close the turning period. “It was a great party,” confirms Paddenburg. “But luckily it wasn’t as wild as in the film. We were pretty tired of the intensive turning period. So I have to go back to Thailand again to really get to know the nightlife.”
