JK Rowling would go to prison for gender opinions

In a post on the “X” platform, the Harry Potter creator made it public that she would prefer a prison sentence if she otherwise had to change her mind about trans rights. JK Rowling is referring to a possible change in the law that would protect the identity of trans people.

“I will happily accept two years in prison if the alternative is being forced to deny the reality and meaning of gender,” the 58-year-old wrote in her recent post. She is responding to an article by “Mail on Sunday”. This reveals the British Labor government’s plans to classify attacks on a person’s gender identity as a criminal offense. According to critics, this would mean that not using the correct pronouns of a trans person could result in a prison sentence.

She added that a prison sentence would be more fun than she ever had on a red carpet. In the comments, she joked with her followers about what job she would do in prison and how she would pass the time. She wrote: “I’m hoping for the library of course, but I think I could also work in the kitchen. Doing laundry could be a problem. I have a tendency to shrink things and accidentally turn them pink. But I think that won’t be a big problem if it’s mostly gowns and sheets.”

Rowling had previously spoken out about trans rights and was criticized and condemned for her comments. She sees herself as a “supporter of women’s rights” and the importance of biological sex. The debate started in 2018 after she posted a photo from Dazed magazine that showed the message “Repeat after us: Trans women are women.” The magazine had projected the news onto the British Ministry of Justice. JK Rowling commented “No” on the post.
