Jesper de Jong makes an excellent start to qualifying Roland Garros

Tennis player Jesper de Jong has started well in the qualifying tournament of Roland Garros. The Hoofddorper won in the first round in two sets against the Czech Vit Kopriva (6-2, 6-3).

The 21-year-old De Jong is 137th in the world ranking and therefore has to enforce participation for the Grand Slam in Paris via the qualifying tournament. Due to his victory, De Jong moves on to the second round in which the German Daniel Masur is waiting for him. To get through to the main tournament of Roland Garros, De Jong has to win the third round.

For Noord-Holland, both Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon groenpoor are already certain of participating in the main tournament. Van de Zandschulp also has a placed status. The Amsterdammer has been in 29th place in the world ranking since this morning, his highest position ever. Greek track (65th) from Nieuw-Vennep will also be in action in Paris.

Roland Garros starts on Sunday, May 22. The men’s final is on Sunday 5 June.
