For athletic: For me it was an absolute top 5 IV All Time! The duo Boateng-Hummels was an absolute bank for years.
About the beginnings at Hertha, then over the HSV, where he then started to qualify for higher tasks and also focused on the N11!
And then of course his time at Bayern, where he cleared everything there was: 2 Cl Title-2013 and 2020 goods probably the climax at the club level. The greatest success was in the N11 of the 2014 World Cup! And at the latest there he had arrived at the sporting Olympus and was the best IV of the time together with his congenial partner Hummels and the Spaniard Ramos!
Shaped the most successful Bayern era and also in the N11 up to the World Cup 18 a bank!
Then the ravages of time gnawing at him were more common. The quality then slowly subsided from 2016.
At the end of 2018, the end came in the N11 when Löw announced in spring 2019 to do without his services. An out with tastes because it was done through the back door!
In summer 21 then also the end of FC Bayern. The stations afterwards were only a sporting value.
Nevertheless, he put an exceptional career in relation to the sport!

Maldini, Ramos, van Dijk, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Puyol, Piqué, Beckenbauer (yes, he was Libero, but there is no longer that today, which is why I would like to see him as IV in comparison with modern players) and I would honestly see Hummels at a level with him. So yes … overall I would say maybe top-10, but definitely top-20, which still speaks for the fact that he has ever been one of the best IVs.
