THEto painting by Jenny Saville comes from matter. In this sensual intensity you can feel the strength of his zodiac sign: Taurus, which expresses physicality and an almost primordial presence.
One remains hypnotized in front of his monumental canvases. Dense surfaces and stratifications of light seem to expand in space to the point of involving the observer. The body becomes an absolute presence, powerful and vulnerable at the same time.
Among the most incisive figures of the English youth art scene, Saville (on display in Venice in Ca’ Pesarountil 22 November 2026) starts from a solid figurative tradition to undermine the classic ideal of beauty. His female nudes do not pursue perfection: bodies marked by weight, surgery, imperfections or trauma become territories of truth and sensuality.

The tension of his painting is reflected in the opposition between the Sun in Taurus and Neptune in Scorpioa: between matter and vision, between reality and the myth of beauty. The curiosity of the Moon and Venus in Gemini, in harmony with Jupiter in Libra, fuels a mobile and inquiring gaze, capable of observing the body as a living and changing landscape.

Saville describes painting as a physical experience“a bit like embarking on a wonderful journey”, which also led her to live in Palermo, which she defined as “an epicentre, a melting pot of worlds”.
In his painting we perceive the bullish obstinacy of observing closely: the inclination of a neck or a fragment of skin is enough for the figure to expand, revealing “different levels of humanity”, in a profound fidelity to the truth of the body.
