She commutes back and forth between her homes in the Netherlands and France, and on top of that her countless TV and film trips: Jennifer Hoffman has a significant ecological footprint. Nevertheless, she says she is very concerned with sustainability. She is concerned about the climate. “Huge worries!” she exclaims The Telegraph.

Rebel Jennifer

Jennifer is increasingly annoyed by global warming. “I do notice that I am getting angrier about it now. We are mocking my son’s future! Dorian and I make as many sustainable choices as possible: we travel by train as much as possible, have green energy, use washable nappies and buy most of our clothes second-hand.”

Jennifer doesn’t want to stop there. “I am now figuring out if I want to continue. Friends of mine have joined the Extinction Rebellion activist group and I’m considering doing that too. Do I think some actions go too far? No actually not. And what is extreme? Someone recently said: ‘Doing nothing is now the most extreme thing you can do.’”

Keep flying

As a member of Extinction Rebellion, Jennifer just wants to continue making air travel. In fact, her entire program 3 op Reis revolves around travelling. “I understand that people think that’s hypocritical, but I think traveling is part of life. I do believe that it can be done differently.”

She flies from hot to her, but once at her destination she does try to act sustainably. “For example, we no longer make domestic flights, look for green accommodations and if we have to rent a car, we try to see if that is possible electrically.”

All-inclusive

Jennifer wants to educate Dutch tourists. “On Bonaire I was amazed at how many people did not leave the resort for ten days. Go out for dinner outside your hotel, talk to the residents! If you do make such a long journey, make it worth it!”

She concludes: “I try not to point the finger too much, because that is not the solution either, but sometimes I have to bite my tongue.”

Fierce criticism

becomes Jennifer on social media terribly screwed up. “Jennifer isn’t much of a light anyway. I say because I follow her on Instagram,” says the famous tweeter Mies.

Roger notes: “Case: ‘Do as I say, don’t do as I do.’”

Nasanne thinks it’s hypocritical. “Yes, I know a few like that. Standing at the front and screaming about climate, and then getting back on the plane the next day and enjoying precisely what they believe is destroying the climate.”

And Bas: “Yes, typical. They do campaign in front of the camera, but they don’t want to take the pain anywhere in their own lives. A life with a CO2 footprint that is at least ten times higher than the average Dutch person.”
