Funny scene

In addition to the wonderful costumes, the 2024 Linna party also saw other kinds of entertainment. President of the Republic Alexander Stubb and Suzanne Innes-Stubb are hosting the party for the first time. A special and surprising moment was experienced in the traditional handshake line, when the former presidential adjutant Tino Savolainen stepped forward to shake hands with the presidential couple.

Savolainen became known during the corona period as the “handy man”, when the adjutants served the president To Sauli Niinistö and Ph.D To Jenni Haukio hand sanitizer between handshakes.

When Savolainen arrived to shake hands with Stubb and Innes-Stubb, the president’s current second adjutant dug Anna Eronen unexpectedly, at President Stubb’s request, he took a small bottle of hand sanitizer from his pocket and poured hand sanitizer into Savolainen’s palm.

The presidential couple, adjutants and other guests laughed at the situation.

After the incident, the handshake was completed successfully. As part of tradition, previous presidential couples shook hands with Stubb and Innes-Stubb last. At the time, attention was drawn to Jenni Haukio’s sparkling gray evening dress, which was embroidered with glitter flowers. For Haukio, known for his restrained style, the outfit was quite a bold choice.

Party changes

The first party of the current presidential couple also saw reforms that were not to the liking of all viewers.

Among other things, the dim lighting of the Linna’s party sparked discussion among the spectators. Colored lights were used in the lighting, while previously the halls were lit with traditional lights.

– Someone forgot to turn on the castle lights, wrote one commenter.

Lighting design expert Raisa Kilpeläinen however, considered the renewed lighting of the party a success.

– The castle’s own beautiful lamps and striking materials, such as crystal and gilding, get their due, Kilpeläinen commented to Iltalehte.

This kind of lighting was at the Castle’s party last year. The lighting is similar at this year’s Independence Day reception. Inka Soveri
