Majority of ‘veteran’ councilors in Barcelona City Council
While the hours are rushing for the investiture session that will decide this afternoon who is the new mayor of Barcelona, the City Council is sure that the majority of councilors in the new municipal plenary session are ‘veterans’ with experience in municipal battles.
Of the 41 councilors, 24 already have experience in the consistory, including Xavier Trias, who was mayor of CiU for 16 years, four as mayor, between 2011 and 2015. There are 19 who repeat after completing the mandate of 2019 and 2023, including outgoing mayor Ada Colau and ERC leader Ernest Maragall. Five others return after failing to finish their last term or having held a seat in the past, as is the case with the new municipal leader of the PP, Daniel Sirera, mayor between 1996 and 1999.
