Jasmin Vähäkangas considered that he is not liable for compensation in the case. The district court had a different opinion.

Former model Jasmin Vähäkangas (formerly Mäntylä), 43, failed to pay the water bills and was eventually evicted from her rented apartment. The matter appears from the recent judgment of the Oulu district court.
Vähäkangas lived Marko– with his spouse in a rented apartment in the center of Oulu from November 2023 to September 2024.
The lessor sent several reminders to Vähäkankai, but the water bills were not acknowledged. The lease was terminated in May 2024, and the couple was eventually evicted from the apartment.
According to the landlord, the apartment was left in an untidy condition after Vähäkankai. Based on the district judgement, the invoice for the final cleaning due in October 2024 is still unpaid.
Room rent receivables were settled in the district court after Vähäkanka contested the case. He considered that he is not liable for compensation. Vähäkangas had terminated his own lease in February 2024. The contract ended for him at the end of March.
However, Vähäkangas did not actually move out of the apartment, but stayed there with his spouse.
The emails revealed
The district court in Oulu had to decide whether Vähäkangas is also responsible for the payment obligations for the period after the end of his lease.
The landlord, i.e. the plaintiff in the dispute, presented e-mail messages sent by Marko’s spouse as written evidence in the trial.
The husband negotiated the extension of the lease, referring to the residents in the plural. Among other things, in the e-mail sent by the man in August 2024, it was said that “we are moving.”
Also, according to the population information system, Jasmin Vähäkanka’s official address was registered in that apartment until September. Vähkankaat returned the keys to the apartment to the locksmith on September 17.
The district court of Oulu sided with the landlord in the case. It obliged Vähäkankaa to compensate the plaintiff jointly and severally with a good 1,100 euros. The amount consists of, among other things, the capital of the debt, interest and collection costs.
Jasmin Vähäkangas, who contested the case, was also obliged to pay court costs of around 1,850 euros.
According to information from Iltalehti, Vähäkangas has been found to be unreserved. He has a good 4,000 euros in receivables from the last two years.
