The singer Jari Sillanpää received help from the surgery for the pains that had plagued him for a long time.

Vocalist Jari Sillanpää60, tells Iltalehte that he underwent hip surgery on Monday at the sister hospital Orton in Helsinki. In the operation, his right hip was cut, and a titanium artificial joint was inserted into it.
– This is almost a trend in my circle of friends, that people have terrible hip surgeries, he laughs on the phone, and says that the operation has become necessary.
– I’m still here in the hospital, and I’ll be able to go home tomorrow.
He says that he has suffered from osteoarthritis of the hip joint for years. Four years ago, the left hip was operated on, and now the other side.
– Before the first surgery, I had suffered from pain for two or three years. I was waiting for a miracle cure and the guys rushed to the surgery. In the final stages, it was such that I limped onto the stage and sat through half of the songs, he recalls.
– Even now, during the autumn and Christmas tours, I was sometimes really sore. I had to walk carefully. It was heavenly to get the surgery, says Sillanpää.
He says he is doing great now.
Sillanpää says that he noticed during Monday’s hip operation, which lasted an hour and a half, because of the light anesthesia at the end of the operation.
– It happened when they sewed up the wound. I woke up feeling pain in the shoulder I was lying on. I didn’t feel anything in the hip itself, because it was anesthetized, says Jari Sillanpää.
– The hall was full of nurses and doctors. I got more painkillers and the pain in the shoulder eased. You can do this operation while awake, even while listening to music. When my mother had hip surgery, she talked to the nurses during the operation.
Back in shape
Jari Sillanpää says that a long recovery period will begin from the hip operation performed on Monday morning, which will last until the end of April. After that, he will return to the domestic concert stages.
– Now we have to get our muscles in shape, he sums up, and says that there is especially glute training ahead.
– Movements should be done a couple of times a day. When the titanium artificial joint was put in, it takes at least six weeks for it to be fit for fight!
He recovered so nimbly from the operation on his left hip four years ago that within five weeks Sillanpää was already in full swing at the Tango market.
Now he approaches it differently. Sillanpää says that he is not going to rush to the stage, but he wants to give time for healing.
– Even the fans have funny said that pirouettes on stage can now be expected again, he says, and admits that he has taken it easy on his gigs because of the pain.
Big change
The artist says that he enjoys his base in Vihti, where he has lived for years. At the moment, the singer’s career is piloted forward by a tight core team, which also includes her ex-boyfriend Siim Bahmatsov.
When the singer is asked if she has a new boyfriend, there is laughter at the end of the line.
– No, no, he says into the phone.
That’s not on his mind right now. Sillanpää says that summer theater concerts and dance stage gigs are coming up for the summer. The 30 years on stage celebration tour extends to Stockholm, where he will give a concert in May.
– I have a concert on May Day in Fuengirola at Sohail Castle, he enthuses.
The place is familiar and dear to him. At the same time, Sillanpää says that the way of doing work has changed. There are no plans for new music. Last August, he self-published No worries – and a new song in November The light is in us. They did not end up on national radio play.
– A few local radio stations play them, but you can find them on streaming services, he states.
According to Sillanpää, the situation is different when there is no big record company in the background and he gets to wave the tempo himself.
– Everything is open. This is also a new way, he says.
Previously, the calendar was a bit too full. Sillanpää says that he has started planning with his team for next Christmas and 2027.
– And this has never happened during my years as an artist. This is creative, fun and nice.
