From January 1, Smit was in charge of the commercial department of FC Volendam, the current number 2 of the first division.
“In our search for a suitable signboard with management experience, after a number of discussions with our supervisory board, we soon came to the conclusion that we did not have to look far,” said Kemper about his successor.
“Jan has by far the most board experience of anyone at the club and is our best-known ambassador. That is why we have asked him to resign from his commercial directorship to start as chairman from next season.”
FC Volendam, where Wim Jonk is head coach, will return to the Eredivisie next season after an absence of thirteen years.
