James Blake recently spoken out publicly for Coldplay and described the continuing criticism of the band as inappropriate. In a conversation in the BBC Sounds Podcast “Sidetracked with Annie and Nick” the British musician and producer commented on how frustrated he was because of the continuing cold play bashing. He emphasized that it was no longer “cool” to criticize the band for no reason.
“Coldplay bashing has to stop. This is no longer cool! It is no longer cool to just say, Coldplay is not cool ‘. Just piss off. There are so many great Coldplay songs. And Chris Martin is clearly a melodic genius. “
He continued: “[Wenn] You don’t like the sound of her last few slabs, ok …? If you saw her in Glastonbury, did you like many of the songs? Probably.” Blake continued: “Maybe the band changed their clothes? Can’t we change our clothes? Are we not allowed to write songs in another genre? Who does that take care of, man? That makes me really angry! “
Coldplay did what others dream of
Despite the occasional criticism, the influence of Coldplay in the music industry remains unbroken. Her “Music of the Spheres World Tour” continues to break records and attract millions of fans worldwide. The tour, which started in March 2022 and is scheduled to continue until September 2025, comprises a total of 225 shows on all continents. The band’s ecological approach is particularly remarkable: Coldplay has undertaken to reduce the CO₂ emissions of its tour by 50 percent compared to the previous tour. This includes measures such as the use of 100 percent renewable energy for your appearances and planting seven million trees – a tree for every ticket sold.
Chris Martin, singer of Coldplay, emphasized in interviews that the band had learned to deal with criticism and concentrate on their music. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Martin admitted that Coldplay was “a very, very simple, safe goal” for critics, but emphasized the importance of remaining authentic and not being influenced by negative voices.
James Blake, who is known for his experimental approach to music, published his sixth studio album Playing Robots into Heaven in September 2023. With this album he returned to his electronic roots and received positive reviews. Bad Cameo, a common album by Lil Yachty and James Blake, followed in 2024.
