Jakub Vadlejch: a spiritual coach raised to a medalist

Jakub Vadlejch won the third prestigious silver medal of his career in Munich. He believes that without a spiritual coach, getting on the podium would not have happened.

The Czech Republic Jakub Vadlejch was one of the early favorites in Sunday’s javelin EC final.

Vadlejch threw no less than 90.88 meters in his first race of the season and is the top statistician in Europe. In Munich, he took silver with a result of 87.28.

– Silver again for me. I’m really happy, but of course I wanted to win.

The medal is the Czech’s third career medal and second silver medal. He had no EC medals before Sunday.

Vadlejch once scored points in the Juniors’ prestigious competitions, but had to wait a long time for success in the adults’ prestigious competitions.

Keihäsmies was left out of the finals in every prestigious competition between 2010 and 2015. In 2016, light began to appear at the end of the tunnel, when Vadlejch was ninth in the EC final in Amsterdam and eighth in the Olympic final in Rio de Janeiro.

The first prestigious medal of her career, the World Cup silver, came in London 2017. The last few years have gone well, as Vadlejch took Olympic silver in Tokyo and bronze at the World Cup in July.

– I’ve just pushed myself forward. I have worked a lot mentally and physically. I wanted to develop in all areas.

– Before London, I collaborated with a spiritual coach. It has worked well.

Get your health back

Vadlejch has been hit hard this summer. He has not fallen below 81 meters in any race this season.

The average of the three best results before the EC final was 89.19 meters.

The reason for the good success is the health that has finally fallen into place.

– After five difficult seasons, I am finally healthy. Staying healthy has been a big goal of mine. In previous years, I suffered from a fracture in my back and big problems in my shoulder.

The European Championship finals in Munich had a tough level on Sunday. Lassi Etelätalo threw for bronze with his 86.44 meters.

Trouper Vítězslav Veselý remained fourth, even though he raced 84.36 meters. Julian Weber celebrated the European championship with his throw that reached 87.66 meters.

– 86 meters for a medal at the European Championships, it is difficult to achieve that. The competition was great. The audience was incredible and helped us, Vadlejch praised.

– I’m happy for Weber, because he won at home and made the crowd so happy. He earned a medal after so many fourth-place finishes, he continued in a press release from the organizers.

Weber was fourth at the Tokyo Olympics and at the World Championships in Eugene in July.

Vadlejch planned to celebrate the EC silver with his wife and the couple’s three-year-old child. There is enough hunger for next year’s World Cup.

– Sometimes I still want to hear the Czech national anthem on the podium.
