Ivo Niehe turned 80 two weeks ago, but we hear relatively little from the once famous TV star. Isn’t it time for a big TV welcome, for example at the table at Today Inside?
Nowadays, Ivo Niehe makes quiet daytime TV for the public broadcaster, portrays famous Dutch people and keeps away from the big TV violence. That is his choice, but it also raises a question, because Ivo turned 80 two weeks ago: isn’t it time for a big TV reception now that the end of his life is approaching?
Lifetime Award
TV authority Tina Nijkamp introduces the conversation Today Inside at Ivo, because she thinks it’s a bit strange that Reinout Oerlemans has won a TV lifetime achievement award. “I would have given it to someone like Ivo Niehe, who turns 80 this year. He has never become Media Person of the Year.”
Wilfred Genee then: “It is special. He is 80 years old, still on TV and very successful. So they want to make a program with him and then he said to me: ‘He has to interview himself. He could do that very well, right?’”
‘I’ll keep watching’
Raymond Mens praises Ivo. “I have to say: his program now comes on Sunday morning after WNL and then I see the beginning, then I want to walk away, but I notice every time: I keep watching, because I really like it.”
Tina: “He also has a very beautiful voice and he has introduced something that we did not know in the Netherlands, namely those very beautiful voice-over texts. He turns a very small star into a world star. I think it should be rewarded.”
Join us
Raymond suggests bringing Ivo into the show. “Maybe invite him to join us in the World Cup series sometime?”
Wilfred: “He once attended a World Cup edition. In Scheveningen, I think.”
Johan Derksen likes it: “I used to play football with him once and he can also play football very well. Not anymore, he is 80, but when I sometimes played with that artists’ team, he could play football well.”
