The plane, a Eurofighter, had crashed on its way back from a training mission, a few kilometers from the military base of Trapani in western Sicily.
The cause of the crash is currently unclear, the Air Force said. The body of the 33-year-old man was found in the wreckage of his plane, the Italian daily ‘La Repubblica’ reports.
