In the 2-1 win against SC Paderborn, captain Kenan Karaman also played a major role in FC Schalke 04’s victory with his goal to make it 1-1 and thus make it to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. Club icon Rüdiger Abramczik is enthusiastic – and believes in a solution for the previously troubled S04 star.
“That was a great idea, an individual performance actually. The way he prevailed was wonderfully done, you just have to say that,” said Abramczik in the YouTube format “Legends Talk – The Original” about Karama’s goal in the third minute of stoppage time in the first half.
“It was about time he had something like that again,” Abramczik continued. “Of course that also gives him self-confidence. He runs, makes, does and fights – but he’s a striker and has to score goals. And if you don’t score goals, then sometimes you doubt yourself a little bit, hide in one game or another.”
First, Laurin Curda (38th) gave the guests from East Westphalia the lead. Thanks to Karaman, Schalke went into the break with a good feeling. Bryan Lasme (86th) scored the late winning goal in the second half – on an assist from Karaman, by the way.
FC Schalke 04: Lots of praise for Karaman
The 31-year-old, who had only scored four times in 14 competitive games this season, “exploded” after his goal, praised Abramczik. “He took command and distributed the balls.”
In any case, the 69-year-old was extremely positive about Schalke’s performance after the break. “I didn’t see any failures. The boys were all great. They really wanted to win the game, you could tell.”

However, the match winner was clearly Karaman, who, not by chance, also received praise from S04 head coach Miron Muslic. “He is an incredibly important player for us, who has put himself absolutely at the service of the team over the last four, five, six months, subordinated everything to Schalke’s success,” said Muslic on the RTL microphone after the game.
