IOC decision: Ukraine satisfied with partial success

Ukraine sees the decision of the International Olympic Committee on the Russia-Belarus issue as a partial success on the international sports policy stage.

“We managed to postpone the decision on the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games,” Sports Minister Vadym Hutzayt wrote on Facebook.

President Thomas Bach had announced the IOC executive’s recommendation to the world federations for the reintegration of Russian and Belarusian athletes under certain conditions, but postponed a decision on their participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It will fall “in due course,” said Bach, without explicitly addressing the criteria that the IOC or the world associations use.
