International film prize for residents of the Mirre care estate: on to Cannes

The film Ghost Writer by residents of Zorglandgoed Mirre in Valthe has been awarded at the international film festival in Los Angeles. The film was made by residents of Mirre and is now being submitted to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. That is held in May.

A whole team of 21 residents and caretakers of the care estate had left for Los Angeles to attend the awards ceremony of the Filmapalooza festival.

The joy was great when it turned out that Ghost Writer was awarded in the Best Used Line category. The film must be based on a central sentence that is assigned to the team. There were 78 entries in that category.

Ghost Writer was also nominated in the Best Actor and Best Used Genre categories.

The film was made for the 48Hour Film Project, which teams around the world participate in. During the project, the team is given 48 hours to make a feature film. They receive an assignment on Friday evening, and the film must be ready 48 hours later. “It may take between three and seven minutes,” one of the creators told Luca earlier.

“After you receive the assignment, the copywriters immediately start writing a script. You have to make your point in a very short time. It is quite difficult to create a beautiful and understandable storyline.”

Ultimately, the film must be ready 48 hours after the start of the project.

THNV media, as Mirre’s film team is called, is an outsider in the film world. The team from Valthe consists of teenagers who live on Zorglandgoed Mirre. They are young people with psychological, emotional and psychiatric problems. Young people who have lost (almost) all confidence in themselves, care and others and experience life as hopeless.

At Mirre, the young people make films as one of the therapies. In front of the camera, they learn to show themselves and express their feelings. It gives young people a lot of self-confidence and improves the image they have of themselves. Moreover, it provides fun in life.
