International Criminal Court takes little action against regime in Venezuela, prominent human rights lawyer resigns

“I can no longer defend the choice not to take serious action against the perpetrators of serious crimes (in Venezuela, ed.).” With these words, renowned human rights lawyer Claudio Grossman resigns in an email to Karim Khan, chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Grossman was appointed special advisor in November 2021 to monitor the situation in Venezuela and provide advice to the ICC. The Venezuelan opposition also accuses the ICC of applying double standards.
