Inter, Thuram’s secrets: how much he is worth on the market

He watches his matches on video, he has embraced the Nerazzurri style, he forms a perfect couple with Lautaro: this is how Marcus took off

Davide Stoppini

From zero to 70 in three and a half months: Marcus travels fast which is a beauty. Inter have found gold and now they wear it, as if it were the Prima della Scala every match, beautiful and elegant like few others. And precious, of course. Because Thuram is already worth 70 million euros today. When in the summer, when signing the contract with the Nerazzurri club, the striker asked to include a 95 million clause, the figure seemed objectively unassailable, except in the eyes of the most optimistic of optimists. And now we are not that far away from what Inter could theoretically ask for on the market today for their jewel.

paradigm

Gold jewel, clear. Signed by Piero Ausilio, the sporting director who chased and courted him for two years before being able to…wear him. Also signed was Beppe Marotta, who at the end of June – in the days in which Milan seemed to have taken pole position – gave the OK for the acceleration with the final increase in salary. Looking back, Marotta will be reminded of his free transfer coup par excellence, that Paul Pogba who arrived from Manchester as a free agent to Juve and resold (to the same United) for 115 million. Thuram in the wake of his compatriot, then. Because the attacker can be compared to Pogba. Or to Onana himself. That is, players who have not reached the deadline because they are ahead of their identity card. But, more simply, protagonists courted and snatched from the competition with a high-level technical project, as well as clearly thanks to the offer of a top salary. Thuram is the perfect paradigm of what Inter intends to do: valorisation of an asset from every point of view, both economic and purely sporting.

numbers

So far Marcus has completely immersed himself in Interism, to the point of mentioning in his celebrations the great Nerazzurri players of yesterday, but also his teammates of today. For example, he put his hands to his ears like Mauro Icardi from the good times at San Siro and in Naples he twirled his shirt like Adriano. He also repeated the classic winger’s celebration together with Dimarco, but when he took up the rifle in Lukaku style, Lautaro waved him no: perhaps it was the only moment in which ThuLa didn’t understand each other. Joy and celebrations aside, the Frenchman’s impact was devastating from a strictly technical point of view: all the result of an attention to work and an attention to detail that in the Nerazzurri house affected everyone, at all levels. Thuram improves those who play near him. A couple of numbers, to support. The first is 6: six like Marcus’ assists, no one in Serie A has pushed a teammate to score like him. The second number is 15: 15 like Lautaro’s seasonal goals, who had never started so well in his career. And of course, a lot depends on the Argentine himself, but the fact of playing next to Thuram is not a secondary advantage. ThuLa is the championship couple. And Thuram the gold became shiny in the hands of Inzaghi. The Frenchman quickly learned a formation that he had practically never played with. Even more: he has memorized the movements of an already tested team.

to the video

Thuram is two strikers in one. He is first and second striker together, he supports Lautaro and searches for depth at the same time. But, deep down, he has yet to discover all his qualities. Maybe this is why he loves to talk to his dad Lilian after every game, to understand where he did well and where he needs to improve. Passage that he also makes with Inzaghi’s staff. Thuram – they tell Appiano – is a devourer of videos that the club’s match analysis men make available to him: so he studies the defenders he will face in the next match, so he knows how to evaluate what he did in the previous match. This is how he quickly managed to conquer Serie A. It is by doing so that the valuation quickly skyrockets to 70 million. This is also how we take revenge on those big clubs who didn’t bet on him with conviction: any reference to Bayern and PSG is not purely coincidental. Good for Inter, who enjoy it all.
