Former Gladbach and Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer won the Italian Super Cup with Inter Milan. In the final in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, Inter won 1-0 against the Italian champions SSC Napoli. The Argentine world champion Lautaro Martínez decided the game in stoppage time for the northern Italians, who were playing in the majority. Napoli’s Giovanni Simeone had received two yellow cards within five minutes and had to leave the pitch early in the 60th minute.

“First of all, Napoli deserve a compliment because they played a great game, defended very well and fought like lions despite playing with ten men. I congratulate my boys, (…), but we were very focused and defended very well. We could have taken the lead in the first half through Dimarco, and we could have scored earlier in the second half, but we were facing a great team. I’m happy for my boys and for the club. A big thank you goes to our fans who have had a long journey and we wanted to share this triumph with them,” said Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, who celebrated his fourth title with Inter.
