It didn’t work, no.

There was at least a minor surprise at the World Cup when Australia defeated Turkey 2–0, which was starred by several top players.

They succeeded in scoring for Australia Nestor Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe.

Turkey, on the other hand, wasted several A-class chances.

The surprise defeat of that, that is, Turkey, meant that criticism started pouring in immediately.

Turkish sports commentator Erman Toroglu stated to Sözcü magazine that the head coach Vincenzo Montella the performance was “the worst ever in the history of the national team”.

Former Turkish national team player Nihat Kahveci like Toroglu, gave criticism towards Montella.

Kahveci didn’t like Montella’s substitutions at all, because they didn’t cheer up Turkey’s game at all.

– The coach failed. One could not help but be amazed at the decisions he made. I wonder what is going on? I was disappointed with the kind of exchanges he made. The coach pulled just as weakly as the players on the field, Kahveci saw.

How did Montella respond to the criticism he received?

– Please forgive us. We can fix the situation, we have time, Montella said at the post-game press conference.

– We knew very well what kind of opponent we were facing. They played well. We had 72% possession of the ball, but we just didn’t finish, Montella continued.

Montella knew what would follow from Turkey’s surprise defeat.

– When you lose, you just have to accept all the criticism that comes your way. Even if it’s not fair.

Turkey will still face the USA and Paraguay in the first group.
