Inter Miami: Coach Phil Neville extends after the best season

“A great honor”

Phil Neville will continue on the sidelines of Inter Miami in American Major League Soccer next season. The 45-year-old Englishman signed a new contract for the season starting in the new calendar year on Monday.

Neville took over the club from former Manchester United team-mate David Beckham in January 2021. Miami finished the past season in sixth place in the Eastern Conference and celebrated their second participation in the playoffs. There it was over in the first round against New York City FC (0:3).

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Phil and build on the foundation laid this year. He has helped Inter Miami build a culture of success and we feel that our development, collaboration and communication has started to bear fruit. We are ready for the journey ahead and confident that we are moving in the right direction,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.

Neville, who was in charge of the England women’s national team before coming to America, added: “It’s a great honor to stay at Inter Miami. I’ve always thought long-term, I’ve always thought that I want to stay at this club for a long time. I think we’re in the early growth phase of this club, in the early building process, and I feel like we’ve made great strides in the last two years, but the journey is far from over. In 2022 we finished sixth in the league, we made the playoffs. But that’s not success, that’s progress. The expectation is to win.”
