The Navy is working on it cybersecurity by a so-called Cyber Node Operation System (CyNOpS). This system allows the Navy to send, receive and intercept digital signals. Defense, TNO, Technolution and the Cyber Innovation Hub today confirmed a collaboration to this end.

Modern warfare is increasingly making use of cyber and electromagnetic activities (CEMA). These are used both offensively and defensively to disrupt radar and radio communications. The new CyNOpS removes these vulnerabilities. This ensures improved operational safety and digital effectiveness of the ships.

Innovate faster with the market

Developments surrounding CEMA are moving very quickly. That is why it is important that companies, knowledge institutions and Defense work together and share knowledge about the latest innovations. The advantage of this is that existing and validated innovations from the market are used. This ensures that innovation happens faster.

TNO has been developing operational systems for Cyber & Electromagnetic Warfare for years. That led to a prototype of the CyNOpS. Its successor is now being developed specifically for the navy.

“Ships and marine units will have better options for processing digital signals,” said Director of Operations at the Navy Commander Frank Lenssen. “This way they can protect themselves against cyber and electromagnetic threats.”

In addition to the navy, Defense also includes the Cyber Innovation Hub (CIH) involved in the development. The CIH works together with the market on proven scalable solutions for Defense.
