ERC Ingolstadt is about to be eliminated from the Champions Hockey League (CHL).
In the quarter-final first leg against the four-time CHL champion Frölunda HC from Sweden, coach Mark French’s team lost 1:3. For the second leg in Gothenburg (December 16th), the team from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) has their backs to the wall.
Ingolstadt, which qualified for a CHL quarter-final for the first time ever, got off to a better start. But the guests responded to Leon Hüttl’s opening goal (12th) in front of 2,780 fans with goals from Jere Innala (21st), Henrik Tömmernes (33rd) and Linus Högberg (52nd). Frölunda is once again one of the favorites for the title this year.
In the ten CHL editions so far, only Red Bull Munich from the DEL has reached the final once. However, in 2019, Bayern lost to Frölunda.
