ROma, 1 Jul. (askanews) – Precise actions and practical utility tools to give concrete answers to the needs of patients who coexist with a cat, a chronic intestinal inflammatory disease, also involving institutions and pushing them to commit themselves to improve the management of the disease and the quality of life of patients. The second edition of “Voices of the belly” is underway, the awareness campaign promoted by the Pharmaceutical company Lilly – with the patronage of scientific societies and patient associations – which this year aims to pass “from emotions to actions” and therefore suggests solutions by focusing on three needs that emerged from listening to patients with cats: sexuality and parenting, conviviality and nutrition, work and study.

Massimo Claudio Fantini, secretary general Italian Group for the Study of Inflammmacy Bowel Disease: “It is important to shed light on the symptoms and impact that the symptoms that these diseases produce in life, in different aspects of the patient’s life, to strengthen the relationship and the alliance between doctor and patient to do in such a way that the disease is under control in all aspects of a person’s life”.

Chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases affect over 250,000 people in Italy, with a constantly increasing incidence, and have a debut especially in youth age, between 15 and 40 years old. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are the two most common cats. For the symptoms that characterize them, chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases do not only have a physical impact but generate a significant psychological and social weight, often underestimated.

Alessandro Armuzzi, Head of UO IBD, Humanitas Clinical Institute, Rozzano: “They are patients who have a highly impact quality of life in their various dimensions and therefore management becomes fundamental from a multidisciplinary point of view, providing when necessary those figures that go beyond simple medical and nursing technicalism: psychologist, nutritionist and also Care Giver are figures who become fundamental in the management of the patient with Crohn’s disease. or ulcerative colitis ”.

The campaign “Voices of the belly. From emotions to actions” therefore rests on three pillars: the manifesto of the actions signed by the patient associations, the scientific community, by institutional and Lilly representatives; Three practical guides, brochures aimed at people with cats to orient themselves between the themes of sexuality and parenting, work and study, nutrition and conviviality, through clear and direct information; A vodcast series in 3 episodes, moments of dialogue and comparison on the three areas of identified needs.

Federico Villa, Associate Vice President Corporate Affairs & Patient Access Lilly Italia: “Lilly’s commitment is to continue generating innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases. With the ‘Voices of belly’ campaign, cocreata with patient associations and scientific societies, we want to support patients today to break the wall of the Impazzo who revolves around these pathologies and offer public decision makers concrete tools to improve the care paths of these people “.
