Indoor amusement parks and aqua parks benefit from less weather during the Christmas holidays

The bad weather during the Christmas holidays was a good thing for the indoor amusement parks and aqua parks. The indoor parks also performed well at the Plopsa parks. “The weather was less so the outdoor parks got a little less people. In De Panne the hotel was full, so people who had booked in advance. Day tourists were more looking for indoor activities in bad weather,” says CEO Steve Van den Kerkhof .

Indoor parks have had a more difficult time since the corona period. “Since corona, things have not been as they used to be in the indoor parks. I started to wonder whether that would recover to the level of 2019. I can now answer ‘yes’ to that question. This Christmas holiday we reached the level indoors of 2019 or even a little more,” says Van den Kerkhof.

The Bellewaerde aqua park in Ypres also did well during the holidays. “We certainly can’t complain. It was busy during the holidays and we were fully booked on several days. Those were mainly the days with very bad weather. It was clear that families were looking for indoor activities at the time. We can speak of a fairly have a good Christmas holiday,” says Bellewaerde’s marketing & sales director, Filip Van Dorpe.
