Indonesian rescue workers have ended the search for victims of the collapsed al Khoziny-Kostschool in Sidoarjo, on the island of Java. Reuters news agency reports this on Tuesday. No more people are missing. More than 61 bodies have since been salvaged.
The building of the Islamic boarding school suddenly collapsed last Monday, while more than a hundred students were present in the prayer room for the afternoon prayer. The collapse mainly met boys between 12 and 18 years old. The girls were in a different room and could mostly escape.
According to the rescue service, the building was renovated without a permit. Two extra concrete floors were installed on top of the prayer room, but the old foundation turned out not to be able to carry that extra load. The investigation into the exact cause of the disaster is still ongoing.
