In the municipality of Westerveld, residents have been able to place a temporary home in their yard since last week. The municipality wants to help people who are quickly looking for a place to live. The new policy applies for three years and is then evaluated.
The owner of the yard has two options for setting up a temporary home: setting up a movable home (a residential unit or a chalet) or the conversion of an already existing barn into a home.
Alderman Renate den Hollander is happy with the new measure. “In Westerveld there is a great demand for extra homes. We are working in different ways to realize a thousand new homes for 2030. But the process for building homes takes an average of five to seven years. With this policy for temporary homes in private heirs, we expect people who are quickly looking for a home.”
