Rally DirtfishAccording to the site, the Hyundai team threatens to leave the World Rally Championship if the proposed rules for 2027 are not modified.

Technical Director of Hyundai Motorsport François-Xavier Demaison says the stable is dissatisfied with the proposed rules.

– With the now proposed rules, it is difficult for us to make any decision. A full internal combustion engine is not something that a car manufacturer, like Hyundai would be ready to market through the rally, Demaison tells Dirtfish.

The new rules include how in the future, alternative transmission, such as hybrid and full electric motors, can be used in the Rally World Championship cars. However, for the season 2027, only biofuel internal combustion engines are available.

Hyundaita is also worried about a short schedule where a new car should be completed.

– 2027 is too early for us. And not just for us, Demaison adds.

Major changes

In December, the FIA FIA announced that the upcoming WRC27 cars will be clearly the most advantageous than, for example, Rally1 cars this season. EUR 345,000 is set at the 2027 season. Currently, the price of a Rally1 car is close to EUR 1 million.

The rules for the 2027 period are to be valid for five times. Demaison says that changes are too fast to change such a long -term change.

– Somehow, this time you have to find a solution to determine your budgets for parts of the car, and this will take time. So we do not now have time to design and build this car and test it enough to start a five -year period.

– I find it crazy to start a long period without proper testing and validation, Demaison adds.

FIA’s technical director Xavier Mestela’s stack tells Dirtfish to take the Hyundai claim into account. However, it is not yet possible for the season 2027.

– We want to maximize the show at the moment. Because of this, we think that an internal combustion engine is the best solution for the short term. If a car manufacturer wants to promote their electrical, hybrid or hydrogen technology, we have to offer them other championships for that, Pinon says.
