A Mexican has been in prison for a month because he abused his lawyer Fred van Rossem from Oss in February. This happened in a consultation room of the prison in Vught. The 30-year-old man, Adrián V., also has to pay compensation of 750 euros.
The court in Den Bosch has determined this. According to the judge, the attack led to pain and fear of the victim. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had also demanded a month in prison.
Suddenly attacked
During a conversation, the counsel was suddenly attacked and hit his head several times. Adrián V., who was in custody, was also accused of an attempted strangulation of the lawyer. This could not be proven and therefore the Mexican is acquitted of this.
When determining the punishment, the court takes into account that the suspect attacked his lawyer, while the lawyer did his work. Moreover, the whole happened unexpectedly, while the victim could not go anywhere, because they were together in a closed consultation room. The lawyer passed fearful moments.
According to V., Van Rossem had not greeted him properly when he visited him on 17 February. He is said to have made gestures that in his (Mexican) culture count as disrespectful, V. said during the handling of the case earlier this month. Van Rossem said that he barely escaped: “It came from a totally unexpected corner. There was no reason.”
V. was also on trial two weeks ago for a burglary and arson in Den Bosch. That is why he was in custody in the penitentiary institution in Vught. If it had been up to the OM, he would have been in prison for four years. The court finds a year and a half sufficient.
Arson and burglary
V. was in a cell because he would have made a fire with paper and a mattress at a residential complex at the Ketsheuvel in Den Bosch. The Mexican lived there until recently. Since his divorce from the Dutch woman with whom he has a son, he has been in a rental apartment. Status holders, students and emergency seekers mainly live in the complex on the Ketsheuvel. The arson is set for camera images.
The flames were a few meters high and wide and that is why residents of the complex were in great danger. However, the court could not determine how serious the fire was. It was also not clear whether there were people in the house.
V. was also suspected that he broke a window of a house with an iron pole that same day. Inside, he would also have caused damage for thousands of euros by destroying furniture. The Mexican has known this.
He was under the influence of drugs when he committed the burglary. He wanted to get his gram because the residents of the house are the new owners of his dog. He should have gone the animal years ago and tried to take the dog with the burglary, but that didn’t work.
The court considered all this proven and for this the man was sentenced to prison: of a year and a half.
