The Public Prosecution Service has imposed a fine of 60,000 euros on a company in IJmuiden for a fatal industrial accident on March 30, 2023. This is reported by the ANP. In this incident, a 40-year-old man from Den Oever died while transferring a passenger to a sea-going vessel.

The company has violated the Working Conditions Act, according to the Public Prosecution Service. The pilotage company transports people to and from ships. The 40-year-old employee became trapped between the pilot boat and the seagoing vessel. He died the same day from his injuries.

The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILenT) conducted an investigation in collaboration with the police. “The company had not sufficiently identified the risks of entrapment, had not limited these risks as much as possible and had not sufficiently informed employees about this,” the Public Prosecution Service said on Friday.

The company adjusted its work instructions after the accident. Employees have received additional information about working safely when transferring passengers to seagoing vessels.
